With over 40 years of experience teaching financial and managerial accounting, and nearly 20 years of selling accounting software, we’ve seen a consistent gap in the workforce: many employees handling financial operations lack a strong foundation in the “why” behind the numbers.

Often, bookkeepers and accountants are promoted based on tenure or company familiarity, not technical expertise. But can they confidently answer management’s questions? Can they trace transactions from journal entry to financial statements with clarity?

That’s why Biz Prep Academy was created. Because your business deserves team members who truly understand the financial side of operations and because employees deserve the training to step into that role with confidence.

I’ve spent over 40 years teaching Financial, Managerial, and Office Accounting at Houston Community College. I’m not a fan of bulky textbooks or massive e-books. Most of that content can be distilled into a much more efficient and streamlined learning process.

Think of it like military basic training: in just 13 to 16 weeks, recruits go from civilians to fully trained service members. It’s intense, focused, and effective, just like business education should be.

If it really matters: I hold a BBA and MBA from the Bauer College of Business at the University of Houston. Many of my friends are trained accountants, and honestly, we’re pretty cool. We’d definitely earn a spot at the “cool kids” table in any cafeteria. While we don’t eat, sleep, and breathe accounting, we’re more than comfortable talking shop with both accountants and non-accountants alike.

I bring decades of experience in financial management, from helping launch early accounting software on Datapoint systems to overseeing job costing at the Kennedy Space Center. I founded a PEO, managing 2,500 weekly paychecks and mastering payroll and tax reporting across Texas, Oklahoma, and Louisiana. As QuickBooks became the go-to for small businesses, I helped countless owners not just run the software, but truly understand their books. I’m also a proud U.S. Air Force veteran, with overseas service in Turkey, Taiwan, Thailand, and Vietnam.
